Pastoral Letter: w/e 8th May 2021

Dear Friend from Bridport United Church, Uploders Methodist Church or Hope & Radipole United Reformed Churches

When reading a recent written service by Tim Wells, upon reflection, I really liked the way that God sticks with us and changes us with amazing levels of patience, which fits really well with the global prayer movement known as ‘Thy Kingdom Come.’  An Anglican initiative, it has been taken up enthusiastically by several other denominations, including our own and invites Christians around the world to identify and pray for 5 people they know to come to know Jesus.

It begins on Ascension Day, 13th May and continues through to Pentecost Sunday, 23rd May.  In some ways it is a bit of a progression from the idea of ‘Back to Church Sunday’ but allows each one of us to focus on 5 people known personally and pray daily that the relationship we have been blessed with, with the God who knows, loves and encourages us, will have a similar effect on those folks too.  Additionally it offers the opportunity as we do so over the days to have the discipline of focused prayer on others whilst perhaps also recognising how our faith can continue to change and improve us too?

Don’t forget too that we are fast approaching Christian Aid week and there is the continuing opportunity to make a difference there so that we can offer practical and financial support to communities across the globe who are in great need.

Love and prayers from your Minister,

Rev'd Peter Clarke
URC Minister of the Bridport & Dorchester Joint Pastorate
