Pastoral Letter: w/e 31st July 2021
Dear Friend from Bridport United Church, Uploders Methodist Church or Hope & Radipole United Reformed Churches, Since last I wrote I have had a delightfully ecumenical couple of weeks. The other Sunday I jointly led our annual summer service together with the folk at Loders Parish Church followed by a wonderful BBQ in the Vicarage garden. Then, that afternoon, I joined the Tolpuddle Festival Service translocated to United Church Dorchester to allow for additional numbers where we Circuit and Pastorate folk were joined by the President and Vice President of Methodist Conference, the Moderator of General Assembly of the United Reformed Church and I also met the new Team Rector of the newly re-constituted Anglican Team in Dorchester. We had a rousing sermon on justice and it all gave me lovely warm memories of previous Tolpuddle Festivals such as one past Methodist President doing Bhangra-dancing, a massive crowd singing ‘Sweet Caroline’ accompanied by a brass band … oh and an equally rousing sermon by the then vice-president, Rachel Lampard on doing justice, loving kindness and walking humbly with our God. In a week when I have been painfully reminded that despite passing July 19th, the world has not yet returned to anything like normality I do feel encouraged that we are edging back there, one step at a time and we will get back to something like it … eventually! On a pastoral note, you may recall that I previously received a communication from a fellow resident of past-member Thelma Jackson when she passed the impressive milestone of 100 years? He has written to let us know that she died peacefully in the home and wanted her friends here to know. Blessings from your Minister, Peter So, here are your Sunday Service Options:
