Pastoral Letter - July 18

Dear Friend from Bridport United Church, Uploders Chapel, Hope URC or Radipole URC,

It’s been a strange old week to be honest which has felt a little like the earliest days of the pandemic, when things changed and changed again, leaving many of us feeling disconcerted and unsure quite where we are?  The roads and pavements are getting busier and I see on social media reminders to Be Kind.  It’s good advice and I’m sure Jesus would agree?

Keep well and keep being kind … oh and patient too!

Anyway, Sunday’s coming so here is this week’s menu of service Options offered by the Circuit Worship Team and beyond to worship together:

1) The Circuit Video service will as usual appear on the Dorset South and West website on Saturday evening and is for the short term going to be hosted by me.  This week’s preacher is my friend, the Rev’d Janet Sutton-Webb who was at my theological college for the same four years as I was.  After two previous ministries, she now works for the Ely Diocese as Evangelism Coach so I invited her to share her perspective on doing thing differently in the light of the pandemic.
Definitely different as she asks us to look up the following link on YouTube first to watch a video clip from the Disney Film Frozen 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gyFub7IuoJQ
The DSW Sunday Service 19th July 2020 includes music from Pete Brazier, Heather Reed and Artey Williams

2) The Audio Service from the URC Daily Devotions Team will be led on Sunday by  Francis Brienen, URC Deputy General Secretary for Mission leads.  I’ve heard her a couple of times and she was remarkable so am greatly looking forward to hearing as she considers the parable of the wheat and the weeds.  We will sing
Tim Hughes and Jonas Myrin's Bless The Lord (10,000 Reasons)
Bernadette Farrell's Everyday God4
John Newton's ever popular Amazing Grace  - this version is performed by Judy Collins and the Global Virtual Choir.
We will finish with the rousing It is the Cry of My Heart  by Terry Butler.
To access this Service, to www.urc.org.uk then find the link to the Daily Devotions and clicking the Service option

3) Finally your weekly bonus is another Video Service from the Soul Space Team, continuing our journey through the Book of Ruth, with reflection from me and we’ve upped our game on the music front I hear too!  Here’s the link:

Blessings from your Minister,

Peter
